General traits of bird community of the forest biogeocenoses in Kharkiv region. - Yu.I. Vergeles. - Berkut. 2. 1993. - P. 14-15.
Bird counts and investigations of bird habitat conditions in the forest ecosystems of watersheds and valleys of the Seversky Donets and the Dnieper were carried out in 1988-1991. Natural and artificial forests cover 10,4 % of region. About 90 bird species were registered (70 ones in summer and 35 ones in winter). For counts the line-transect method of Hayne-Ravkin was used. In the hill and watershed oak forests there are 50 species in the breeding season, the general population density (GPD) is 1530 ±178 ind/km2. The dominant species is the Chaffinch (28,4 % of the GPD). The common species are the Great Tit, Wood Warbler, Collared Flycatcher, Blackcap, Robin, Song Trush, Blackbird, Blue Tit, Chiffchaff, Hawfinch, Yellow Hammer. In winter 25 species were observed, the GPD is 254 ± 57 ind/km2. The dominant species are the Blue Tit (25,1 %), Waxwing (20,7 %, but not each winter), Goldcrest (19,5 %), Great Tit (18,6 %). The common species are the Bullfinch, Nuthatch, Tree Creeper, Great and Middle Spotted Woodpeckers, etc. In ravine oak forests there are from 20 to 30 species in the breeding period, the GPD varies from 1035 to 1600 ind/km˛. The dominant species are the Chaffinch (25,0 %), Great Tit (10 %) or Whitethroat (13,5 %), Yellow Hammer (11,6 %) and Chiffchaff (11,6 %). The common species are Tree Pipit, Blue Tit, Song Trush, Garden Warbler and other. In winter 10-15 species were observed, the GPD is about 200-250 ind/km2. The Great Tit and Bullfinch dominate. In flood-plains oak forests there are about 40 breeding species, the GPD is 2000-3500 ind/km2. The Chaffinch (29,3 %), Trush Nightingale (19,1 %) and Great Tit (10,0 %) dominate. The common species are the Blackcap, Blue Tit, Yellow Hammer, Greenfinch, etc. In the winter period there are 25 species, the GPD varies from 416 to 964 ind/km2. The dominant species are the Blue Tit (31,6 %), Great Tit (21,7 %), Bullfinch (11,0 %). The common species are the Tree Creeper, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Jay, Siskin, etc. 25 species breed in swampy alder forests. Their GPD is 1500-2500 ind/km2. The Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Hawfinch, Garden Warbler dominate. In pine forests the number of bird species and GPD vary from 15-20 (100-1200 ind/km2) in the young forest planting to 42 (1506 ± 100 ind/km2) in middle-aged plantings. Dominant is the Chaffinch (34,0 %). The Tree Pipit and Wood Warbler dominate in the young pine forests. The common species are the Great Tit, Grey-spotted Flycatcher, Blue Tit, etc. In the winter period there are from 9-10 species in young plantings (260 ind/km2) to 20 species in middle-aged plantings (181 ± 74 ind/km2). The Goldcrest and Great Tit dominate. The common species are the Willow Tit, Crested Tit, Jay, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Blue Tit. [Russian].
